US vetoes UN Ceasefire Resolution amid escalating catastrophe in Gaza.
The United States once again vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution on June 4th, 2025, that called for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution, supported by 14 out of 15 Council members, including longstanding US allies like the United Kingdom and France, was aimed at halting Israel’s genocide on Gaza. Yet, the US stood alone, shielding Israel from accountability as civilian deaths in Gaza continue to skyrocket.
This latest veto is the sixth time since October 7th that the US has blocked UN action aimed at restraining Israeli aggression. The veto underscores Washington’s unwavering and increasingly isolated support for Israel, even as global outrage grows over Israel’s daily war crimes against the Palestinians.
With over 54,000 Palestinians reportedly killed since October 2023, most of them women and children, aid groups, human rights organisations, and UN officials have warned of a humanitarian collapse in Gaza.
Nevertheless, US officials justified the veto by claiming the resolution failed to condemn Hamas or support “ongoing diplomatic efforts,” a rationale critics view as hollow given the scale of Palestinian suffering and the repeated sabotage of ceasefire efforts by Israel.
